Motivation Requires Meaning

Motivation Requires Meaning

All the time I hear the same reasons for not starting a workout plan, or making a lifestyle change such as making healthier food choices — no motivation.

Most of us want to be motivated to start something new. We watch someone else’s success, look at our old pictures to remind us of how we could look now, or even look at our medical bills to see what we want to change. Yes, things like this can be a very strong motivator. But the motivation that we get from things like this only lasts for a very short time, so we have to keep going back and repeating it again and again, and reminding ourselves of what our goal was.

That's why we often look for someone to help show a smarter and more practical way to reach our goal. But what if we don't have anyone to help, or we don’t have the budget to hire someone for help right now?

Here's some tips that can help you to start.

First, you must find your real meaning in what you really want to achieve. This sounds simple and easy, however we need to take time to think about this first. For example, let’s say you want to lose X amount of weight. Then what? WHY do want to lose that weight? The answer to this is your meaning. If you’re honest with yourself then you may see that the real reason is completely different than you thought!

Second, write it down. How you will feel when you have reached your goal? What is it going to change in your life? Think about this all the time, especially just before going to sleep, which will help you connect it to your subconscious mind.

Thirdly, our body works so simply. It seems complicated but it is really not. Everything inside us is working in a perfectly organized way. Yes, I know that we do mess it up sometimes! But the natural way of being for our body is simple and organized, and yet at the same time it is so complicated and super smart, because it’s really our mind that is the lazy one. The mind does not like change. So positive thinking, and being stubborn and persistent about the results that you want, can actually train your mind.

Lastly, and the most important one, is to put a deadline. Maybe break it down into many small deadlines if you need to, so that you get small achievements and rewards along the way, but have a time limit. Turn it into a business project.

When you read this please don't think that I have figured everything out and am doing everything that I wrote here perfectly! Absolutely not, I am practicing, learning, and perfecting as much as I can, all the time. But I do believe that by sharing our own perspective and experience we can help each other and maybe give each other different ideas on how to achieve what you want.

Start today, not tomorrow. Today is a goooooood day!

Inhale peace, exhale LOVE.
