New Year’s Resolutions
This time of the year we like talking about our New Year goals, plans and wishes. Do you think that we really need to wait for the new year to make this happen? I don’t think so…
Unfortunately, so many people are waiting for a magic solution for their goals. Maybe the goal is to lose some weight, go to gym regularly, or buy something for yourself that you really want. But whatever it is, most likely it’s all about our outside world. One New Year’s Resolution that I didn’t hear from anyone yet is to say “I will not waste time in my life anymore, I will be more conscious, and do my regular practice to make it happen.”
Do you know that if we are living consciously we really don’t need to think about losing weight or doing regular workouts — we will automatically want to do these things, because we’ll know it’s what we need to do. We will eat when we are hungry, we’ll move and exercise when our body tells us we need to. We will have control over our body, rather than our body controlling us.
You may now be thinking I would love to do that, but how? How about before every meal, just try taking three deep breaths, and then eating. When you finish what’s on your plate, if you’re still hungry then just wait for 15 minutes before eating more food. This will make your eating less compulsive and more conscious, and you’ll start eating the way that your body needs. You can apply the same thing to other parts of your life too, such as in decision making.
This is my New Year’s Resolution — I will increase my practice so that I can live a little more consciously. I know this will take time, because this is a lifetime practice for all of use, but it’s what we all need to do.
Did you have a chance to talk to any older people recently? If you pay attention then all they want is to live joyfully and give what they have. My question to you is, why do we have to wait to get old before we find the balance in our life and are able to focus on living joyfully, rather than just on what we have materially?
I know this is probably not what you expect from a New Year’s Resolution! However I really do believe that if we want to live a quality life, we all need to make some radical changes in our lives. And remember, you are the LIFE!!!
Ask yourself, is if not possible that many or most of the rules and ideas that we’ve gathered through our lives are actually completely wrong?
Happy New Year! This year, don’t make small changes — instead, transform yourself.
Much LOVE.
